Transportation is vital for industrial facilities

Our simulation consultancy services cover broad range of transportation problems found in industrial facilities, e.g. optimisation of railway and road transportation, saving resource costs or designing the infrastructure.

Industrial, especially production, facilities have to be flexible enough to adapt to rapidly changing conditions (demand fluctuations, failures, etc.), and at the same time they have to operate in a very efficient manner to save valuable financial resources. Our consultancy services can provide substantial help in the though task to operate and manage such transportation and production systems.

The simulation tool  Villon, that is utilised in our consultancy services, supports detailed modelling of industrial facilities transport operations, including the railway (factory sidings), road (trucks, fork-lifters, cars, etc.) and other (cranes, AGVs, etc.) transportation as well as modelling of storage operations (read more about  Villon's features).

Let us help you with

  • Adapting the transportation system to increase/decrease production in a plant
  • Verification and evaluation of infrastructure or equipment changes (new cranes, sidings, etc.)
  • Verification of new production facility designs
  • Evaluation of rail and road transportation interactions
  • Analysis of internal factory road transportation (e.g. intersection vs. roundabout)
  • Optimisation of material, intermediate and product transport flows
  • Determining the optimal number of loading and unloading bays
  • Determining the optimal number of handling equipment (e.g. forklifts)
  • Minimisation of transport personnel costs (shift planning, utilisation, ...)
  • Rationalisation of transport operations in container terminals
  • Adapting container terminal operations to new schedules
  • Determine optimal number of locomotives and personnel
  • Dimensioning of warehouses
  • Identification of bottlenecks and their elimination
  • Verification of gains after modernisation of technical equipment
  • Planning operations during maintenance or reconstruction phases
  • and many other issues ....

BASF Ludwigshafen

BASF is the world's leading chemical company, headquartered in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The industrial sidings of the Ludwigshafen facility with nearly 300 km of tracks belongs to the largest in Europe. The facility includes own marshalling yard with a double track hump, more than 20 classification sidings and enormous capacity of holding tracks. Each day, several dozens of production halls have to be supplied with rail cars to deliver material and transport finished products. Some of the goods are also transported utilising nearby container terminal KTL.
